Smooth jive ska vibes I don't normally offer my services outside the live recording setting, but when a buddy of mine asked if I could record a demo for his group, I said, "Sure, why not!"The Night Doctors (which may or may not be their decided name), is a group of soul-jivin' jammers who appropriately host their practices in a skateboard warehouse. We tracked 8 songs in about three hours and came up with a nice half-hour disc that is a first for the group. It was a nitty-gritty, no-nonsense session. I took directs for rhythm guitar, high bass, low bass, and keyboards. I miked up the drum kit (kick, snare, tom, floor and 2 overheads), threw a condenser on the solo guitar amp, a Shure 57 down for the trombone and ran the vocal mic into the rig and then passed it through to their PA for reference. We overdubbed back-up vocals for the track you hear here with the six guys surrounding two vocal mics. Overall, it came out real nice.
